Privacy Policy for METRIC
Last Updated: December 4, 2025
1. Clinical-Grade Privacy
METRIC ("the Protocol") is a clinical-grade telemetry instrument. We treat your biosignals with the same rigor as a medical record. Our architecture is built on a "Privacy by Design" foundation using Edge Processing and Mutual TLS.
2. Data Architecture
Step 1: The Edge (Local Processing)
Your Apple Watch acts as the primary compute node.
- Raw Telemetry: 100Hz Accelerometer data and Raw R-R Intervals are processed locally on the device using CoreMotion and Accelerate frameworks.
- Feature Extraction: We calculate DFA Alpha-1 (Metabolic Thresholds) and Asymmetry (Gait Mechanics) on-chip.
- Sanitization: Data is stripped of PII (Personally Identifiable Information) before it leaves the device. User IDs are hashed using SHA-256.
Step 2: The Bridge (Secure Ingestion)
If you opt-in to the Distributed Research protocol:
- Transport: Data is transmitted via Mutual TLS (mTLS) to verify authenticity.
- Storage: Anonymized time-series data is stored in Google BigQuery for the sole purpose of training our Global Human Gait Genome model.
3. Local Mesh Networking
Our "Squad Sync" feature uses Apple Multipeer Connectivity. This creates a local, serverless mesh network between runners. Position and telemetry data are exchanged directly between devices via Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth LE. This data never touches the internet.
